摘要
转喻是自然界普遍存在的一种语言现象,是人类基本的认知方式之一。转喻作为一种心理机制,在语言的产出和理解中起着重要作用。认知语言学家认为,概念转喻是意义的拓展和缩小这一认知过程中思维的"桥梁",因此,概念转喻对词义的演变起着不可或缺的作用。英语词汇自形成以来,由于社会的发展,词义不断发生着变化,而转喻是词义发生演变的内在动力之一。
Metonymy is a ubiquitous feature of language in the nature. Moreover, it is one of the basic human cognitive modes. As a mental process, metonymy plays a critical role in understanding and output of a language. In the eyes of Cognitive linguists, concept metonymy is the mental bridge between expanding and narrowing of words meaning. Therefore, concept metonymy plays an indispensable part in the semantic evolution of words. Since English vocabulary came into being, it has been undergoing changes due to the social and historical development. However, metonymy is the main driving force for the semantic development of words.
