This special column was the outcomes of the Public Forum on China＇s Spatial Strategic Planning and Development in the National 12th Five-year Plan held at the University of Hong Kong （HKU） in April 2011. The Public Forum was jointly organized by the International Centre for China Development Studies, Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, at the University of Hong Kong, and co-organized with the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research at Chinese Academy of Sciences at Beijing and Institute of Space and the Earth Information Science at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
