Translation Principles for Religious Culture Elements in Literary Works

文学作品中宗教文化元素的翻译目的是再现异国的风俗信仰,传达相关宗教文化知识,帮助译文读者了解作品的深层文化内涵。宗教文化具有复杂性、隐蔽性、民族性、专业性等特点,在翻译过程中应当遵循尽量保留、主次有别、异化为主、形式与内容兼顾、整体把握、注意细节的原则,以求准确、全面、深刻地揭示原作的文化内涵。

The translation purpose of religious culture elements in literary works is to reproduce foreign customs and beliefs, convey related knowledge of religious culture and to facilitate readers of target language to deeply understand cultural connotations. Religious culture is characterized by complexity, concealment, nationality and specialty. When translating, the translator should follow the principles as follows： the translation should retain the original religious culture, differentiate the major from the minor, balance the content and the form, and pay attention to the details, so that the translation could accurately, comprehensively and deeply reveal the cultural connotations of the original.
