As a classic American initiation novel, The Catcher in the Rye presents a resistant but innocent image of a young man. However, this novel, contrary to many readers and critics" belief, is not a direct narration conveyed by the author to the reader. Holden the unreliable narrator, "you" the unidentified narratee and the indeterminate narrative form together decide the post-modern indeterminacy inherent within this novel's narration, which serves as an indispensable narrative rhetoric technique to involve the reader into the interactivitv with the novel's author.
