Individual Differences in SLA:From Simplicity to Complexity

摘要 本文从复杂理论视角出发,旨在勾勒出国内外个体差异研究的发展路径。通过对相关文献的量化和质化分析,从构成要素、研究主题、研究方法及工具三个角度描述了个体差异研究的发展轨迹。分析得出,整体趋势是由简单走向复杂,但在发展过程中存在变化性,并非完全的线性发展,且在近几年出现了复杂性的涌变。文章最后重新定义了"学习者个体差异",提出了"个体间差异"及"个体内差异"概念,试图为个体差异复杂理论的建构提出启示。 From the perspective of Complexity Theory, this paper presents a comprehensive review of the research literature in order to chart the development trajectory of research on individual differences in SLA. By means of quantitative and qualitative analyses, this paper identifies the developmental trajectory in three important aspects: the categories/variables, the research topics and the research methods. Based upon the identification and review, the paper argues that the overall trend of the trajectory is from simplicity to complexity, and rather than a linear development, there exists some variability in the process. Finally the paper redefines the concept "individual differences", and points out that complexity in terms of theory building, research scope and methodology will be the trend in future research on individual differences in SLA.
