指出了现代机械工程科学前沿的显著特征 :一方面 ,它与信息科学、材料科学、生命科学和管理科学交叉 ;另一方面 ,它在创造性地解决机械工程中的关键科学问题的过程中得到发展。另外 ,还简述了机械工程科学的进展、科学前沿 ,并提出了“十五”优先领域的初步构想。

It is pointed out that advanced mechanical engineering and science frontier possesses obvious features,on one hand,mechanical engineer ing and science is intersected with informatics,material science,life science an d management science,on the other hand,it is progressing and developing through solving creatively key scientific problems of mechanical engineering.The future development and the scientific frontier of mechanical engineering and science ar e described,the conception of top priority fields during the coming five years i s proposed as well.
