The bond between human and nature, society, and history is pried apart by modern buildings, which prevents cities from developing ecologically. As a new form of architecture, renewal buildings can make cities more ecological by reducing energy consumption and pollutants, integrating different social areas to create a public sphere, and protecting cultural heritage to preserve the local history. As an ecological land- scape, renewal buildings boost individuals' participation in the ecological communication in a compulsory and continuous way, which precisely reveals the characteristics of landscape communication. The paper concludes with an analysis of Beijing 798 Art Zone, a typical renewal building in China, to propose the significance of renewal architecture to China cities' sustainable development.
