充分利用四、八级考试的反拨效应,抑制教学质量滑坡

Fully exploiting the positive washback effects of TEM4/8 to arrest the decline in the quality of teaching and learning

扩招后的高校英语专业教学质量出现滑坡,这已是不争的事实,应当予以正视。面对这种状况,本文通过阐述英语专业四、八级考试的权威性及其对教学的促进作用,提出充分利用四、八级考试的反拨效应抑制教学质量滑坡的主张。文章希望学界正确看待四、八级考试,有效利用这一教学质量检测手段不断改进教学、提高教学质量。文章最后还就完善四、八级考试提出了两点建议。

In view of the fact that there has been a decline in the quality of teaching and learning as a result of college enrollment expansion, this paper proposes that the positive washback effects of TEM4/8 on teaching and learning be fully exploited to arrest the decline. To achieve this end, a correct and sympathetic attitude toward TEM4/8 is absolutely necessary. The paper further elaborates on the authoritativeness of TEM4/8 and summarizes their roles in syllabus implementation, for which the tests are designed. It finally makes two specific suggestions for improving TEM4/8.
