A Brief Analysis of the Orientation of Southeast Asia in Japan's Energy Strategy

日本资源匮乏、能源高度依赖进口,油气资源丰富、地处交通要道的东南亚对日本有着巨大的吸引力。战后几十年来,随着日本经济的发展,东南亚在日本能源战略中的地位经历了几次重大的变化,这种变化是由东南亚的能源地缘战略位置和日本自身的能源需求结构决定的。为了确保今后的能源供应安全,日本将协助其核心企业在东南亚地区获取更多的油气资源开采权,政府开发援助(ODA)也将向能源领域倾斜,并将更深地卷入东南亚地区事务。

Southeast Asia, located at the traffic thoroughfare, is rich in oil and natural gas. It is attractive for Japan that is short of energy resources and highly depends on energy importation. During the several decades af- ter War, the position of Southeast Asia in Japan＇s energy strategy experienced some significant changes along with the economic development of Japan. These changes are resulted from the geo - strategic position of energy of Southeast Asia and the structure of energy demand of Japan. In order to guarantee energy supply in the fu- ture, Japanese government will assist key Japanese enterprises to get more mining right of energy resources in Southeast Asia. Japan＇s official Development Assistance will incline more to the energy industries and obviously, will involve itself much more in the affairs of Southeast Asia in the future.
