By analyzing its features, it can be concluded that the newly collected grotto mural residual in Sichuan University Museum must have come from ancient Qiuci in the west regions, where it fell into the hands of western powers in their explorations. Specifically, It was initially collected by Japan' s Otani Expedition Team in the early 20th century when they "investigated and explored" Central Asia and the Xijiang region. Having been exhibited in Japan for many years, it eventually makes its way back to China. Its return provides new materials for studying the relations between Southwest China and the western regions.
