Diagnosis and treatment of subependymoma in spinal cord

目的 总结脊髓髓内室管膜下瘤的诊断要点和治疗方法。方法回顾性分析2002—2011年上海华山医院神经外科手术病理证实的10例病例，对其影像学特征、病理特点、手术方法和结果进行总结和讨论。结果10例患者中，肿瘤全切除7例，近全切除2例，大部分切除1例。术后6例症状改善，4例加重。随访时间为1—8年，肿瘤全切和近全切除患者均没有复发。结论磁共振上的特征性表现有助于术前诊断，显微外科手术是治疗该病的最有效手段，病灶全切除患者预后较好。

Objective To summarize the clinial characteristics and treatment of subependymoma in spinal cord. Methods A total of 10 cases of subependymoma in spinal cord from 2002 to 2011 in the department of neurosurgery Shanghai Huashan hospital were enrolled. Results In all the 10 cases, total removal was performed in 7 patients, subtotal in 2 and partial in 1. Postoperative symptom was improved in 6 patients and decreased in 4 patients. A follow - up was performed from 1 to 8 years, no recurrence occurred in the patients with tumor totally or subtotally removed. Conclusions Subependymoma in spinal cord is a rare kind of tumor in the central nerve system. The characteristic in MRI may help us to make the correct diagnosis before operation. The best treatment for subependymoma is surgical resection, patients with tumor totally removed may have good, outcome.
