珂勒惠支以一位裸体的母亲形象为刻画的对象,一双有力的手抱起睡熟的婴儿以示慈母之爱,长期饥饿致使母亲的身体瘦骨如柴,一对干瘪的乳房没有乳汁哺乳婴儿.在构图上,白色的半圆形背景与黑色的圆形形成对比,衬托出强烈的黑白对比.整个画面不作精细的刻画,大刀阔斧,刻凿有力,点、线、面安排恰当,显示出珂勒惠支驾驭黑白木刻技巧的高超能力.
In Kollwitz's print design, white semicircular background forms a sharp contrast with black round to build a comparison between black and white. The whole print is without fine depict, but rough carving, showing his super competence in using black and white woodcut.
