Since it was listed as a municipality directly under the central government, Chongqing has entered the stage of quick urbanization and the new street space with lots of skyscrapers has become the visual symbol of this metropolis. However, with the natural environment of Chongqing as a mountainous city and the urban problems accompanying the high-speed development, Chongqing can only offer the sleek streets as its interface. Behind them on the high hillsides, in the low valleys or on the low flood lands you can frequently view the shanties, vegetable plots, wastelands, large-sized and poorly built infrastructures and the marginalized low class people who have no other place to live, which combine to constitute the "unidentified zone" whose ownership is vague, whose management is poor and whose inhabitants are not unusually deprived of identity.
