背景离休干部陈女士，患胃部贲门癌，第三次住院进行手术治疗。1964年1月，陈女士因患子宫绒癌伴肺部转移，在化疗后行子宫摘除术；1995年7月患胃癌进行第二次手术；最近，她老觉身体不适，发现残胃贲门部又有癌症，决定于2004年7月1日行贲门癌摘除术。7月1日是中国共产党的诞生日，也是她与死神挑战的第三次手术。陈女士坚强、自信、开朗、乐观的性格深深感染并教育着周围的病人、家属及医护人员。在7月1日的早晨，陈女士进手术室前，护士来到床边。
Background
Madam Chen, a retired government official, has gastric cardiac cancer. She was hospitalized for operation for the third time. In January 1964, Chen＇s uterus was removed after chemotherapy due to uterine choriocarcinoma with pulmonary metastasis. In July 1995, she received another operation because of gastric cancer. Recently Chen did not feel so well and it turned out to be cancer in the cardiac area of her remaining stomach. She was scheduled to have another operation on July 1, 2004. July 1st is the birthday of the Chinese Communist Party and it will become the day she will challenge death for the third time. Madam Chen＇s adamantine confidence, optimism, and sanguine personality has influenced and educated people around her including other patients, her relatives and all the medical personnel in the hospital. On the morning of July 1, the nurses came to her before she was sent to the operation room.
