On the Contemporary International Theoretical Development of Foreign Language Learning Motivation

国际化的进程加速了英语全球化的进程,这使得外语学习"融合性"动机受到了巨大的冲击。在外语学习环境中,以英语为母语群体的缺失使得融合性动机似乎失去了发展的空间。该文从剖析融合性动机理论在英语全球化中的非适切性出发,阐述了"外语动机自我体系"理论的主要观点和相关的实证研究,并提出了这一新动机理论对中国外语教学研究者的启示。

Internationalization has facilitated the emergence of ＇ global English＇, making the concept of integrative motivation less applicable to situations where there is no specific target reference group of speakers. The article begins with analyzing the inappropriateness of integrative motivation against the background of global English and then illustrates the main points of ＇ the L2 Motivational Self System＇ proposed by Dornyei and its relevant empirical studies. It ends in its implications for Chinese language researchers.
