Japan is referred to as "a country with meager natural resources". In terms of cultural resources, however, Japan calls herself as "a strong country". The Japanese macro - economy had witnessed a retarda- tion during the 1990s while the cultural industry had maintained rapid growth, making Japan the second largest country only to the USA. in terms of cultural industry. The Japanese competitiveness and its share in the world cultural markets have been increasing. This progress can be attributed to Japan~ abundant cultural resources, strong government support, effective personnel training, and a mechanism for developing cultural derivatives. China - centered Asia, European countries as well as the United States will be the most important export mar- kets for the Japanese cultural products.
