On the Problem of Poverty in 18^(th)-century England

18世纪的英国社会在呈现出经济不断发展、民生渐趋改善的一面同时,也始终面临着一些令人困扰的社会问题,贫困问题即是其中之一。尽管贫困问题并非始自18世纪,但随着该世纪英国经济的不断发展尤其是18世纪后期的加速发展,以及由此而引起的社会流动与社会分化的加剧,贫困问题也相应地显得越来越突出。

Poverty was one of the disturbing social problems in 18^th - century England though the country at that time did en- joy continually developing economy and gradually improving living standards for common people. It is true that the problem of pov- erty did not originate from the 18^th century, while the problem became more and more prominent due to sharpening social mobility and division resulted from accelerated economic development.
