唐才常领导的自立军起事是一次由改良向革命的过渡性运动。杨毓麟由于当时思想还停留在改良阶段,加之,他又在乡人时任江苏学政的瞿鸿禨幕府中担任襄校一职,无法分身,尽管他对自立军起事持同情态度,但他并没有参加。本文以大量原始资料为依据,辨清了杨毓麟参加过自立军起事这一以讹传讹的说法。

The Rise of the Self-Military under the leadership of Chang Caichang was a transitional movement from reformation to- wards revolution. Yang Yulin＇s ideas were still stuck in the improvement stage, while during the period of his collaboration with his country people of Jiangsu Qu Hongji of shogunate he shouldered the post of Xiang School of Government. Therefore, despite his sympathy with the independence forces, he was not personally involved. This article, based on a large number of raw data, identifies the unreasonable historical assertion that Yang Yulin joined acts of the independence army in the past.
