《说文解字》由东汉许慎编写,记录了有文字以来到东汉时期的社会文明史,而这一时期按我国历史分期来讲恰好是上古时期。从《说文解字.金部》字着手,可以分析出上古时期金属冶炼及加工工艺的水平,了解这一时期的金属文明。

“SHUO WEN JIE Zi” was compiled by Xu zhen in Eastern-han Dynasty, and it＇s a record of the civilization history of that period, which belongs to the “Early Ancient Period”. From this book, when we research into the Chinese characters with the radical of “金” （metal）, it is easier for us to have an insight of smelting and processing teehnicals of metals of that period, and have a better understanding of the “metal civilization” of the time.
