摘要 2009年底哥本哈根全球气候变化会议的无果而终,给国际社会连续数十年来的环境保护与可持续发展的努力平添了一抹悲观色彩。2012年是联合国斯德哥尔摩人类环境会议40周年和里约环境与发展大会20周年,它可以而且理应成为我们在理性总结与反思中继续前行的一个新起点,而即将举行的里约会议20周年纪念峰会就可以理解为国际社会重聚可持续发展的全球共识并为之作出进一步政治抉择的重要会议。我们面临的根本性挑战不是要不要"发展",而是发展必须是"可持续的",这对于广大发展中国家和欧美发达国家来说都是如此。 Copenhagen Climate Change Conference 2009 came to nothing, but the 40th anniversary of UN Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm and 20th anniversary of UN conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro should serve as a new start for us, with rational conclusion and reflection, to continue moving forward. The forthcoming 20th anniversary of the Rio Summit should be taken as a significant move by international society towards reuniting global consensus on sustainable development and making a further political choice： the fundamental challenge we＇re faced with is not whether development is necessary or not, but that development must be ＂sustainable＂.
