Objective To observe the character of the blood-flow of the basicranial arteries and the effect with shuxuening in negative schizophrenic patients. Methods 120 in-hospital schizophrenic patients were involved in the average blood flow in postcranial arteries (Vm) measurement as well as being assessed with SANS. The 120 patients were divided into group A and B, patients in group A were treated with antipsychotics and 12ml shuxuening dripping each day, while patients in group B took antipsychotics only. All the patients were measured by TCD and SANS and were compared between and within the groups. Results Patients with schizophrenia had abnormal appearance in TCD and the Vm scores decreased. After 8 weeks' therapy with shuxuening, group A patients got improvement in TCD results, the MCA, ACA, PCA and BA results in the arteries has statistical difference (p〈0.05); while the VA results changed little. What is more, negative chronic schizophrenic patients have lower blood-flow in postcranial arteries. In group A, the Vm results were enhanced after the patients were treated with shuxuening and the blood flow was faster than that of Group B, which has a significant difference (p〈0.05). The scores of group A in SANS declined statistically. Conclusion Treated with the combination of antipsychotics and shuxuening, the in-hospital chronic schizophrenic patients get more remission in negative symptoms and more blood flow in postcranial arteries..
