摘要
从功能角度分析英语教学中释义(paraphrase)的不足之处。从形式主义的角度来看,这种方法有很多所谓的优势。但是,如果我们将语言中的功能方面也考虑进来的话,就会发现那些所谓的优点正是这一教学法的致命的弱点所在。传统的教学法要求学生首先掌握各种语言结构形式,然后再将它们应用到实际交际中。系统功能语言学将语言视为一个可供人们根据不同的语境选择适当表达形式的"意义潜势"系统。它认为学习者首先应该学会如何用语言进行交际,然后在交际过程中学习语言的结构形式。着力从系统功能语言学的语域理论对释义这一教学法作出了一系列的探讨。
This essay is intended to probe into the deficiencies of one extremely popular method in present English teaching—paraphrase.From the formal point of view,this method possesses several alleged advantages.But there are many mortal points in paraphrasing if we take the functional aspects of language into consideration.Instead of requiring students to first learn how to manipulate the linguistic structures and then to study how to put them to actual use in interactions,the systematic-functional linguistics which regards language as a system of meaning potential from which people are expected to choose appropriate expressions in light of the context deems that it is necessary to appeal to students to first learn how to do conversation,how to interact verbally and out of the interactions to develop the linguistic structures.This essay choose one typical theory of functional linguistics—Register theory as its theoretical foundation.
