认知语言学兴起于上个世纪八十年代,它提出语言的创建、学习及运用,基本上都必须能够透过人类的认知加以解释。认识来源于实践,认识又能指导实践,教师如果能够深入理解认知语言学所蕴含的哲学规律,掌握其阐明的各种理论,并把它们应用到英语教学当中,将对英语教学实践产生巨大推动。
