After the Tanggu Agreement was signed in 1933, Japanese government swelled in its ambi- tion of invading China. On June 8, 1934, the vice-consul of the Consulate of Japan in Nanjing, Kuramoto, was missing, and Japan attempted to take advantage of this incident to make trouble. Chiang Kai-shek and Wang Jingwei made joint response to it in order not to "affect" the military ma- noeuver of "suppressing the Communist". Under the command of Chiang kai-shek, Wang J ingwei tol erated Japan lull of obsequiousness. Although Kuramoto was found at last, the incident left behind much hidden trouble and it further exposed the real attitude of the Chiang-Wang National Government toward Japan.
