The paper presents a important analysis and modeling method for modern network architectures and functions ——layering and partitioning and describes characteristics and applications taking the transport network as an example. Then the paper introduces applications of layering and partitioning method on various service networks and supporting networks and discusses layering and partitioning architecture model for whole information network. Finally, the delayering trend for the functional architecture of next generation networks is also presented.
