以赛亚·伯林先后于1945、1956、1988年访问苏联。三次访问都时值苏联历史发展的关键时刻。伯林所到之处,刻意留心考察苏联文化艺术、知识分子生存和创作状况、知识分子与政府的关系,并且以其自由主义理念加以深刻的分析和批判。
Isaiah Berlin visited Soviet by 1945,1956 and 1988, the history of Soviet has made a big change at that time. When Berilin went to Soviet, he concentrated on culture and art, survival of intellectuals, the condition of their academic productivity and relationship between government and intellectuals, and then analyzed and criticized them in depth with conception of liberalism
