Initially influenced by the Indian culture, the clothing of the Malays formed its unique Malaya style after the arrival of the Islamic culture in the 13th century in the time of the Melaka Sultanate.Since the 16th century, the western culture has been driving the traditional clothing away, until the Dakwak in 1980s when the Malays restored their traditional clothing.Based on the Islam doctrine, the clothing of the Malays today is relatively diverse.Their clothing reveals the openness and inclusiveness of the Malaysia culture as well as the restoration and development of the local culture.
