The Student Service-Based Learning Developed in American Universities and Its Inspiration for China Higher Education

摘要 美国大学除了具备教学和科研基础功能外,服务社会已成为其第三大核心功能。而在美国大学的服务学习作为一种教育方法,能够帮助和促进学生的学习和成长,在培养具有知识和技能、分析能力和合作水平以及社会责任感的合格公民方面发挥着重要的作用。美国大学服务学习对中国大学毕业生就业、课堂教学,以及对高等学校思想政治教育提供了借鉴作用和有益启示。 Abstract: In America, apart from basic teaching and research functions, service-based learning has become the third core function of its higher education. Service-based learning, as a method of teaching and learning can assist students with learning and promote their growth. Also, the service-based learning plays an important role in cultivating the eligible citizens with knowledge, skill, analytic ability, cooperative spirit and a sense of social responsibility. Moreover, the service-based learning developed in American universities is thought to be possessed of referable value for the current Chinese higher education reform and able to inspire the work done by the Chinese universities, such as graduate employment, classroom teaching, ideological and political education, etc.
