WT5BZ]Summarizing the achievements of bamboo industry development in China in the last five decades,this article discusses the demands for bamboo industry in the sustainable development of society in the 21 st century and elaborates the strategies for the future development. The strategies include:a) equal attention to economic profits and ecological benefits on the basis of environmental protection;b) classified management,directional cultivation,and energetic development of high quality and high efficience resources of bamboo; c) expansion of utilization of bamboo;d)industrialization of bamboo forestry and participation in global market competition;e) reinforcement of the role of science and technology in the sustainable development of bamboo industry,f) popularization of technology of bamboo forestry and improvement of the talent concerned;g) establishment of information network for the bamboo industry,and h) promotion of international exchange and cooperation.
