军事建制的由来,水陆码头的地理位置等都造成天津尚武轻文的社会心态,文化积淀相对内地古城较为浅显。但同时,天津自古以来是海盐的产销基地,是盐商的大本营。一些具有远见的开明盐商,富而崇文,一方面提高自身文化素养,一方面不吝其财投入文化、教育事业,从而在客观上改变了明代天津文风不盛的状况。

Due to the early establishment of military organizational system and the geographical location of terraqueous docks, the social morality of Tientsin was more martial than literary and its culture accumulation was less than that of ancient mainland cities.
