The EARTH is undoubtedly an important image in American poetry. The thesis begins with the EARTH image and choose three active poets in American poetry of different periods Whitman, Forest and Snyder, who show various EARTH images and whose poems were considered extremely attractive and representative in their era. The thesis analyzed the deep metaphor space and meaning in American poetry of EARTH image in different period by examining the EARTH images in their poems and explored the home consciousness and naturalism in American poetry.
