The first excavation took place in 1996,and this second one opened up an area of 245 sq.m.The
cultural deposits consist of two phases according to stratification and unearthed objects. The first phase
corresponds roughly with the Spring and Autumn period, and the second, the Warring States Period. Most
of the Neolithic remains resembing the first phase of the Yingang site in Guangdong have been defined
as 'remains with pottery bearing the kui-pattern,' while those resembling the second phase are related
with pottery bearing a union-jack-like pattern. The excavation in question just testifies the chronological
relation between the two types of remains, therefore helping to establish a chronological system for the
pre-Qin archaeological remains in Guangdong.
