民主决定科学——湖湘文化精神与五四时期湖南报刊互动关系解读之一

Democracy Decides Science—— One Interpretation on the Interactive Relationships of Huxiang Culture , Spirit and Hunan Newspapers and Journals during the “ May 4th Movement ” Period

在"五四"时期湖南的报刊话语中,民主与科学不是"并重"的关系,不是若"舟车之有两轮"的关系,而是民主重于科学,民主先于科学,民主决定科学,这是"五四"时期湖南社会一种主导的思维定势和价值取向。到后来民主作为一种启蒙的现代价值观的功用也渐为淡化,由话语转化为一种夺取政权的斗争。这除了特定的历史环境的制约等因素外,湖湘文化"政治本位"基因的驱遣也是其深层次的导因。

In the discourse of Hunan newspapers and journals during the ＂May 4th Movement＂ period, democracy and science were not equivalent to each other as two wheels of a cart. Democracy predominated, preceded and decided science, which prevailed Hunan society during that time. Later, the enlightening function of democracy as a modern value gradually weakened. Democracy has turned from discourse into a struggle for regime, which reflected the gene and inheritance of ＂political base＂ of Huxiang Culture, a rul- ing factor deep among other ones as certain historical and environmental restrictions.
