公共图书馆的发展定位与使命探讨

The Development Location and Mission of Public Library

国际图书馆界曾纠结于公共图书馆的未来发展方向。近来,"第二起居室"和"第三空间"概念的提出,突破了公共图书馆作为知识和信息中心的传统理念,将公共图书馆引向一个全新的空间概念,但为了对公共图书馆具有更明确的指导意义,也许"第三文化空间"的概念更为恰当。据此,未来的公共图书馆应秉承"平等、自由、多元"的价值理念,将学习与信息获取、娱乐与社会交流、表现与愿望实现打造成为其立足于社会并为公众所认同的三大中心使命。

The direction of public library development is a question libraries around the world have been grappling with. The recently proposed con- eepts of ＂second living room＂ and ＂third space＂ introduced the brand new notion of space, thus expanding the traditional conception of public libraries as centers of knowledge and information. However, in order to give public libraries a more concerete guiding principle, perhaps a concept of the ＂third cultural space＂ is more appropriate. Accordingly, public libraries should adhere to the basic values of ＂equality, freedom, diversity＂, so that learning and information gathering, leisure and racial interaction, public showcasing and value realization can be cemented as their three primary missions.
