《四库全书总目》卷首所载乾隆帝在编修《四库全书》前后的"圣谕"颇具学术价值,可以借此考知当时搜访图书所采取的一系列措施。《四库全书》之名由乾隆亲自确定,他还直接降旨编纂了《四库总目》等多种书目和丛书,并为研究《四库》的删改情况提供了第一手资料。
