Little was ever heard of Wenzhou before 2011. As a port city with the largest popu- lation of any city in Zhejiang Province, it had scarcely anything else to recommend. However, the ups and downs of the Chinese economy have created waves here that are attracting more and more attention. For the past year, Wenzhou has featured regularly in newspaper and television news head- lines, to the extent that no one concerned with China＇s financial market could afford to ignore what is happening there.
