Selection Principles of Cataloging Multi-Volume Books

目前我国关于多卷书著录的选取方法可归结为6种:全采用分卷著录、全采用整套著录、按是否一次性到馆区分著录、按ISBN区分著录、按分卷题名是否有独立检索意义区分著录、按有无分卷题名及是否具有独立检索意义区分著录。这些方法均有各自的优点,但也都存在一定的缺陷。在著录多卷书时,各图书馆应遵循以下原则:能用整套著录的不用分卷著录、客观准确地反映文献信息、有效编目。

At present, the selection method of multi-volume books cataloguing could be divided into 6 types in our country： using decentralized description, using comprehensive description, using distinguishing description according to whether arriving at the library at the same time or not, using distinguishing description according to the ISBN, using distinguishing description according to whether having the volume- title and the independent retrieval meaning of volume-title or not. These methods have their own advantages, but also have certain defects. In multi-volume books description, we should follow principles： if could use the comprehensive description, do not use the decentralized description; we should reflect the information objectively and accurately; we should insist on the efficient description principle.
