In the history of modem literature research, A-Ying was the first one who manifested a distinct and conscious concept of modem literature, which made modem literature a relatively independent concept in the history of literature. Under the guidance of such clear awareness of history of literature, A-Ying has made unprecedentedly overall design and construction to the pattern of research on modem literature in aspects of philology, literary theories, criticism, studies of novels, traditional operas, light literature, literary translation and of history of literature. And he has achieved the most outstanding academic achievements. The academic fields A-Ying had pioneered, the literature he had discovered, the researching methods he had used, the scholarly tradition he had founded and the academic points of view he had put forward, have all influenced following researches on modem literature, up to this time of day. Therefore, A-Ying＇ s academic research is a sign of modem literature＇ s self-consciousness; and A-Ying＇ s academic achievements sig- nify the found of modem literature which was taking steps on the road of independence and construction.
