On the Idiom “fengmaolinjiao”

关于成语"凤毛麟角"的来源、释义,目前颇有争议,且最早例证均太晚。结合唐代石刻和传世文献对此成语的来龙去脉作出考察,可以纠正错误认识,弥补辞书编纂的不足,并可以为汉语词汇语义研究提供实例。

At present, there exists a controversy about the interpretation and orgin of the idiom ＂fengmaolinjiao＂, and the earliest examples are too late. This paper makes a comprehensive investigation of the ins and outs of the idiom based on stone inscrip- tions and handed-down documents. The investigation not only helps to correct the lexicographical mistakes, but also provides a practical example fro Chinese semantic study.
