English Deontic Modality and the Construal of Attitude and Stance

系统功能语言学拓展了英语情态的研究,将情态语言系统下分为情态化和意态化,并对所表达的人际功能进行了论述。意态化对应于逻辑中区分的责任型情态,论文基于系统功能语言学关于此类情态的论述,结合巴赫金话语多声的概念,以三篇有关哥本哈根气候会议报刊社论为语料,分析社论语篇的功能语旨,即对重要事件和问题表达媒体的态度和立场,如何得以体现。

Expanding the research on Modality, Systemic Functional Linguistics distinguishes two basic types of Modality, namely Modalization and Modulation, in terms of different speech roles involved. With Modulation, it corresponds to Deontic Modality defined in logic, and this paper is firstly to review the discussions of this type of Modality within SFL, and then, combined with Bakhtin＇ s Heteroglossia, to carry out an analysis of Deontic Modality in 3 editorials on the Copenhagen Climate Meeting, with the focus on the construal of attitude and stance, the functional tenor of editorials.
