自然语义元语言是以还原释义为目的的语义分析体系,它基于自然语言中一系列通过广泛跨语言验证的核心语义要素,凭借文化脚本,对跨文化对象语言进行语义分析。相较于传统的跨文化语义研究方法体系,自然语义元语言更加直观、中性,因而在当代跨文化语义学、语用学研究中极为重要。探究自然语义元语言的理论基础及发展现状,不但有益于对其进行历史及理论性的定位,而且有助于深化对这一理论研究前景的认识。

The Natural Semantic Metalanguage（NSM） is a decompositional system of meaning representation based upon empirically established universal semantic primes.It deals with the cross-cultural language in reductive semantic analysis by means of cultural script.Compared with the traditional cross-cultural semantic analysis approach,NSM has the merits of direct perception and neutral description,and therefore,is of great importance to the research of contemporary cross-cultural semantics and pragmatics.The exploration in its rationales and current situation enables us to position NSM historically and theoretically,meanwhile,contributes to the deeper understanding of its research prospects.
