Objective: To compare the gait parameters recorded on the CatWalk with the mechanical withdrawal threshold (MWT) tested with von Frey hair in incisional pain model in rats, and to evaluate the correlation between the CatWalk parameters and MWT. Methods: The incisional pain model was adopted as described by Brennan. All rats were tested with von Frey hair and the CatWalk at 24 h before incision and 2 h, 24 h, 48 h and 72 h after incision. Results: Compared with the baseline before incision and healthy side, print area, stance phase and swing speed of the injured paw decreased significantly, and swing phase of the injured paw increased significantly after incision. Moreover, these CatWalk parameters showed a statistical correlation with MWT. Conclusion: The CatWalk gait analysis is a novel tool to evaluate early mechanical allodynia in incision pain model.
