苏莱曼一世以其卓越的文治武功创造了奥斯曼帝国的盛世辉煌,为奥斯曼帝国带来了无与伦比的光荣与繁荣。但也正是在他统治时期,帝国社会形成了后宫干政、朋党政治、财经困境,以及对米勒特特权滥用等问题。其后果是,这不仅终结了奥斯曼帝国连续十世的明君政治时代,而且在事实上成为了奥斯曼帝国走向衰落的开始。这些弊病也为其后困扰奥斯曼帝国数个世纪的麻烦埋下了伏笔。

Suleiman I, the greatest Sultan in the Ottoman history, brought un- precedented pride and prosperity to the Ottoman Empire. Nevertheless, harem, poli- tics, clique politics, financial difficulties and the abuses of Millet privileges formed during his reign not only terminated the age of eminent monarchy which had lasted ten generations in the Osman family, but also marked the beginning of the decline of the Ottoman Empire.
