中提琴在清朝中期就已经由国外传入中国。它在交响乐队中的作用是其它乐器不能替代的。文章主要阐述了中提琴的起源、发展、演奏及其在交响乐队中的重要作用。

The viola has spread into China in the middle of Qing dynasty from abroad. Its role in symphony orchestra cannot be replaced by any other musieal instruments. The paper mainly expounds the origin, development, performing and the important role that the viola played in symphony orchestra.
