Why Modern International Sinology Should Focus on Values in Chinese Culture

汉学作为世界了解中国和促进文化交流、世界文明发展的重要途径,不仅应当把中国古代历史、文学等具体学科和国家政策、经济和社会发展具体问题作为研究对象,更应当关注中国传统文化的价值观。这关系到世界各国对中国的文明影响力的认知和当代世界文明的发展,有着重大的现实意义。总结起来,中国文化有三大价值可以有益于当代世界的文明发展,即重视生命自由的价值系统、天人整体的价值观念和天下大同的和谐世界观。它可以为疾病与身心健康、由物欲带来的精神异化现象、环境与气候变化、国际争端等诸多问题提供有效的解决途径。从而推动世界建设一个在自然、社会和人的身心方面更加和谐的新文明,促进世界文明向更高级阶段跃迁。

Sinology is an important way for the world to know about China and to promote cultural exchan- ges and civilization development. Therefore, Sinology- research should not only be done on ancient Chi- nese history and literature, but it also should cover matters in public policy, economic development and social development. Moreover, it should pay more attention to the values in traditional Chinese culture, because this is related to the worldg perceptions of Chinese civilization＇s influence and the development of the modern global civilization. All in all, there are three values in Chinese culture which are eondueive to the development of the modern global civilization： the value system emphasizing life＇s freedom, the belief ＂man and nature as a whole＂ and the world view of supreme harmony. They can offer effective solutions for many problems, such as physical and psychological diseases, spiritual alienation brought about by ma- terial desires, climate and environmental changes and international disputes. Consequently, a more ad- vanced new civilization would be created in the world,, and it would be more harmonious in the nature, the society, as well as human body and mind.
