Joe, the hero of Light in August, is unsociable and indifferent, who impresses others with his ruthlessness. Factually, he ever has a strong desire for family love and has been attracted by love, however, the hardness of life makes him lose confidence in the relationship with others and finally leads him to give up going along well with others and be considered as a ruthless murderer. The paper analyses the relationships between Joe and the women in his life from Sartre＇s concept of＂Being-for-Others＂, with the aim of exploring Joe＇s interior world.
