Aesthetic Ideology and Its Heritage——Analyzing Literary Theory: an Introduction written by Eagleton

Eagleton is a contemporary well - known Marxist theorist and critic. His theory of literary criticism shows an important feature： inheriting and expanding the theory of ＂ ideology＂ from Karl Marx. Through his major theo- retical work Literary Theory： an Introduction, we can find that Eagleton re - established the theory of ＂ aesthetic ideology＂ in two levels of the unconsciousness and form. The theory is a kind of innovation, but it still falls into the paradox of ＂ ideology＂ and the swirl of essentialism.
