魏易的翻译

On WEI Yi’s translations

虽然学界一致认为魏易是林纾最重要的合作者,但"魏易的翻译"却一直没有得到重视。魏易是晚清最早触及"国民性"批评的译者,他还主张通过广泛翻译西洋小说,帮助中国文学赢得世界地位。魏易的译作极具创造意识,富有"本土"与"西方"竞争的张力。其翻译思想透露着清晰的"翻译——会通——超胜"的文化战略。"魏易的翻译"不仅是准确认识"林译小说"的基础,就其自身的价值而言,翻译史当中也应当有其地位。

Commonly recognised as the most important co-translator of novels in LIN SHU ＇s translation endeavour, translations by WEI Yi himself rarely receives academic attention. This paper suggests that WEI Yi＇ s independent translations are equally high in ideological and practical accomplishments. His translations are demonstrative of the tension between the competing identification toward ＂tradition＂ and ＂otherness＂, and a clear cultural strategy popularly adopted by open-minded traditional intellects, i.e. ＂translating, strategic perception, creative adaption＂.
