Copper (Cu) is an essential trace element for mammalian physiological activities. Copper is closely allied with cellular respiration, free radical defense, angiogenesis, the development of neurocyte and body. Some brain physiological functions are known to be copper-dependent. The concentration, transport and distribution of copper are subjected to precise regulation in the body. Copper deficiency or excess may lead seriously diseases. Copper and cuproenzymes play an important role in mammalian, copper metabolism disorder may cause severe neurological symptoms and neurological diseases. The relation of copper metabolism disorders and neurological diseases is briefly discussed.
