语境功能视阈中的悖论语言

An Analysis of Paradox from the Perspective of Contextual Functions

从表层意义和深层意义的对立统一关系出发,结合一定的语言环境,从语境功能视角分析了语言表达中悖论的修辞功效,指出悖论作为一种认知方式揭示了某一语境中所蕴含的潜在真理,同时构建了话语习常意义与语境所确定意义间的张力。在文学文本中,利用这种张力,可以深化所刻画的对象在读者心中的印象;在广告、新闻语篇中,可以借助这种张力,制造"谜团",吸引读者,实现"眼球"效应。

Based on a study of the dialectical relationship between explicature and implicature of paradox, this paper then presents a detailed analysis of paradox and its rhetorical effects from the perspective of contextual functions. It assumes that paradox functions as an agent of cognition, capable of unveiling the underlying truth in a certain context, thus constructing the tension between the semantic meaning and the meaning that a certain context determines. The paper goes on to argue that in literary works, the said tension may help to deepen or highlight the readers＇ impression of what has been depicted; in advertising or news texts, the tension may also help to create an effect of ＂reader involvement＂.
